Hans H. Wendt

Hans has been in the television industry for over 30 years, joining the SABC fledgling television department as a studio video cameraman. During the following ten years, starting as a junior camera operator to becoming a Principal camera operator, he had the opportunity to work with the best of local and overseas talent on a selection of big budget variety and drama studio productions.

With his passion for local rock music, Hans produced and directed numerous music videos, for groups as diverse as Psycho Reptiles (Monster in the Bog), Mango Groove (Mau Mau Eyes) winning the best music video award for the production of the song “Strut Your Stuff” by Mike Faure.

Independently he produced and directed an array of documentaries, from “Aids in SA” to “The World Cable Wakeboarding Championships”, “ The Launch of CCV”.

From 1994 Hans was at the forefront of ‘On-Air Promotions’ with the launch of the various permutations of channels at the SABC. He was asked to be part of the team that launched CCV and become On-Air Promo Manager when SABC 3 started.

Wanting to become an independent producer/director, Hans left the SABC in 2004 and moved to Somerset West, a short distance from Cape Town, immersing himself, as a producer, director and cameraman, in a diverse selection of television programmes such as “Treasure Hunt”,” Whip the Chef”, “Eish”.

As manager of the promotion department, he developed a strong team of creative individuals, initiating countless promotional campaigns to generate strong brand channel awareness, many of which were entered in the International Promax competitions.

For years Hans was the Cape Producer for the SABC nation building tv series “TalkSA”…..which included connecting with the fishermen of Paternoster, the Blind students in Worcester, Indigenous Cultures, the diamond people in Port Nolloth, Olive Oil and Riebeeck Kasteel………

On movies he worked as an assistant producer on “n Sake van Geloof”, and “100 Metre Leeu Loop”. He was AD on the movies “Durban Poison” and “Double Echo”.

At the end of 2017 Hans produced, directed and shot a promotional campaign for the Call Centre Industry.

Since being in the Cape, Hans has been doing conference camerawork for such diverse clients as Artscapes, Barclays Bank, Woolworths, Checkers, etc.

Living in Somerset West, He has offered his talent to various activities, filming local dance studio productions, recording school activities….to doing a promotional video campaign for the local Animal Welfare Society.

Inspired by the surrounding beauty, Hans is at present working on a campaign to attract tourists to the Helderberg area

Hans owns and operates a Sony Digital HD HXR-NX5E camera, two LED lights, a tripod and sound lapel mics.
